The Ludwig legacy





Since 1909, Ludwig drums have enjoyed one of the proudest legacies in percussion and are a favorite of Sweetwater drummers for their warm, punchy sound. The world has heard them under the sticks of Cream's Ginger Baker, keeping the pulse behind Queen at Live Aid, and laying down the monstrous beat of Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks." But their biggest break came when Ringo Starr proudly played them on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, making Ludwig a household name for aspiring and superstar drummers alike.





What is a Ludwig Black Beauty made of?





The hallmark of the Black Beauty snare is its black nickel over brass (BNOB) shell, renowned for its extraordinary depth, beauty, and richness. Each shell starts as a flat slab of brass that’s precision-formed into the seamless, beaded design players know and love. Because brass can be difficult to work with, Ludwig entrusts the shell formation to a select few USA drum makers in small batches. For this reason, only a handful of Black Beauties are created each year ? another factor that adds to their desirability.
